Understanding your health goal!

In contemporary scenario I have observed my clients trapped in a cycle that looks like this

Monday: “No more wheat, bread, paratha or chapati EVER again”

Thursday: “I will start exercising for 1 hour”

Saturday: “I guess I will have a small piece of cake” (I have no willpower. I hate my body, I can’t do diet)

Today’s mind-set has become extreme, which sets you up for failure before you even begin. Consistency with healthy choices is realllyyyy hard, because we think restrictive behaviours are the recipe for success!

Due to restriction, boredom, temptation we put things off that we don’t want to do…..eating healthy and exercising being at the top of the list of ‘un-fun’ things

Change is hard & falling back to old comfortable habits is much easier….

Here are some guidelines to stick to your efforts and ignore the reasons that come on your way.

Start small:

It is easy to bite off more than we can chew (pun intended). When we don’t see the results we expect, that’s when we give up… and have to start all over again.

You have to start small, stick to it and realistically continue it

Some ideas include:

  • How many home-cooked meals you eat per week

  • The number of healthy snacks you munch per week

  • The number of fruit & vegetable servings you had per day

  • How many hours you sleep every night

  • The number of glasses of water you drink per day

  • The rule of 2 hours no screen time before sleep…how many days per week do you follow?

Track your progress with days and time instead of numbers on a weighing scale. Taking a daily short walk to the station or climbing a stairs up, could be the beginning of an exercise habit. Or, putting a fruit / chikki in your bag every day could lead to better eating habits.

Good health begins with how you feed yourself—emotionally, mentally and physically. The long-lasting commitment towards your health requires a foundational shift in focus and conversation—from weight loss / diets to consistency and commitments.
